16: Final Assignment

When I came into the semester, I looked a social media as something satirical and more for entertainment purposes than business. Social media is an integral part of most of our lives yet we do not really realize how much our social media networks are marketing to us and being used for business. Did you know when you comment, like, and post about products and businesses you are participating in marketing? I did not either! Now that I have taken this course, I not only see the purpose for social media but I am now using it myself for my own business. I was a newbie coming into this course (my business had only been "real" for 3 months) but now I feel that I have the skills to run my own social media campaigns.

Today, businesses are nothing without social media. Social media is the way you can maintain a relationship with your customer even when they are not in front of you and let them know about new promotions/sales, products/services, and keep your audience interested. Social media also helps the business owner because through feedback owners can find out what products or services are successful and unsuccessful, trend forecasting, and even better advertise to their target market. The type of social media platforms you use is just as significant as keeping your social media up-to-date.

Certain social media platforms can better suite your business versus others. For example if you are a restaurant owner you probably want to be on Yelp, Instagram, Facebook, and Door Dash because these platforms show menus, provide specials, and even let you know whether they deliver or not. However, if you were an interior designer, Yelp and Door Dash may not be the best social media platforms because they don't suit the business model versus Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, which allow the customer to see your professional portfolio. The type of social media and the way you interact with your audience provide your potential customers a professional outlook of who you are and what product or service your are selling.

The best way to see what works best for your business when it comes to social media is to look at your competition, or businesses similar to yours. When you can find a business that has great social media and it is similar to yours then you can see what type of interactions keep your audience engaged. There are so many different ways to interact with consumers depending on the social media platform. For example on Facebook they have Live videos, images, videos, stickers, emojis, and Gifs that all can be used for posts depending on the type of business you have. However, most people who are on Facebook are viewing videos even more than Youtube so in may be better to post videos or Gifs because it will capture people's attention.

Collecting and studying your analytics will help you make better connections between online promotions and sales (actual conversations) turning into something. Social media can help you figure out which tool works best for engagement. For some businesses email marketing can be effective while for others it is promotions on Facebook, Twitter, or another social media platform. Social media can be the difference between being successful and unsuccessful. Now that I have finished this class, I am confident in my social media skills!
