Week 10A: Blogging for Business
Getting Personal
To many these days, all blogging is personal. From the momapreneur who blogs about the bath and body products she produces or a celebrity who blogs about the latest makeup trends. It seems blogging went from NOT to HOT. In that time, blogs when from boring non-fiction pieces on World of Warcraft to something everyone wants to do. But now, has it become too personal? Adding human interest to your business blog can add appeal, relatability, and give it just enough of a personal touch that your audience with understand and hopefully buy. However, there are times for a personal touch and there are times when you have to provide your audience with facts, instructions, or helpful information. As bloggers, we have to be careful to not make it too personal and get off topic. Think of your own experiences. There have been too many times when I have found a rather interesting article that was related to a topic I was researching but when I began to read I learned more about the bloggers children and pets than the information the blog was "supposed" to provide. Be careful.Try not to add too many personal stories that are off topic and make sure the personal information you do provide is related to the information the readers want to receive. Your personal touch should be the seasoning to the topic you are discussing.
I am not much of a blog reader, but I agree that there should be careful consideration before you get too personal with a blog. It’s important to consider the image at all times and how what you are blogging is going to influence the image.

I can also agree. There must be a line that cannot be crossed. I liked how you talked about staying on topic. I feel that is huge for any business to close the deal. Great post!
ReplyDeleteGreat Points you made Savannah. Audiences can be quickly turned off by just getting the opinions of the blogger and not an even balance of facts.
