Week 4B: Design, Branding, and Aesthetics

The websites that I visit frequently are www.pinterest.com and www.instagram.com. These two websites require that you sign in to use it. Both of these webpages are effective because they have features that appeal to users. Pinterest allows you to create "boards" that allow you to "pin" pictures, videos, tutorials, and blog posts. This "saves" it for the user later when they want to buy the product or service or create something similar at home. This website appeals to anyone who likes to craft, do art, cook, buy clothing and shoes, do hair and makeup, create a fitness plan, and much more. Instagram allows users to share pictures and video clips on a profile. Instagram is good for anyone promoting a product or service and users who like to buy products and services.

Both Pinterest and Instagram are designed well. They use contrast in their web design, contain repeating elements, no spelling or grammatical errors, and is easy to navigate for the user. Both Pinterest and Instagram are recognizable just through their logo because of their branding. They continue with their branding by adding elements of that into their design. Both make the user want to come back because of how easy they are to use and the branding. They are actually both pretty addicting because of their branding and design.

I think the only feature Pinterest and Instagram could add would be a way to buy the items that you like. For example if you see a makeup set then their could be a small icon that could allow you to buy it. That way users don't have to leave the website to find the item. Many people use both of these websites to find things to buy so why not make it easy for them!

This week, I commented on Marie G, Terrel J, and Poetry L.'s blogs!
